As the year draws to a close, I've had the privilege of connecting with diverse members of the diving community, from recreational enthusiasts to seasoned commercial divers. Their firsthand experiences have unveiled some truly remarkable diving destinations that might just inspire your underwater adventures for the coming year.
Mayan Cenotes, Mexico
Topping the list for cave diving experiences, these ancient sinkholes offer a uniquely warm cave diving experience – imagine swimming through a natural sauna. The crystal-clear waters reveal stunning architectural features, and divers can even find ancient Maya handprints preserved in the cave walls. Note: gloves aren't permitted to protect the delicate environment, and you'll need solid buoyancy control. While not a hotspot for marine life, the geological formations more than compensate.

Baie Ternay Marine Park, Seychelles
For those seeking warm waters teeming with marine life, this gem in the Seychelles delivers spectacular encounters. One fortunate diver shared their triple crown experience: spotting a whale shark, schools of lionfish, and mating squid all in a single dive. Talk about hitting the marine life jackpot!

SS Thistlegorm, Egypt
No global diving bucket list would be complete without this legendary wreck. Following in the flipper kicks of Jacques Cousteau, diving the Thistlegorm has become a rite of passage. A liveaboard experience here offers the best opportunity to fully explore this historic World War II wreck.

Bali, Indonesia
Among Indonesia's countless dive sites, “muck diving” stands out as a unique experience. The Amed Jepun Dive Centre offers a gateway into the fascinating macro world of muck diving. It's a peaceful alternative to more conventional diving – perfect for those seeking a meditative holiday experience.

Isle of Skye, Scotland
While perhaps not as tropical as our other destinations, Skye holds a special place in the diving community. Dive and Sea the Hebrides, run by Gordon and Aileen, has become a cornerstone of Scottish diving. Their charter service and historic fishing village accommodation provide the perfect base for exploring Scottish waters. Plus, where else can you end your dive day with a warming dram of whisky in a cozy pub overlooking the slipway?

Merry Christmas and Happy Diving!
