OEUK (Offshore Energies UK) Medicals
Previously known as OGUK (Oil & Gas UK), OEUK is the leading representative for the UK offshore energy industry. Industry policies require that offshore workers must be regularly assessed by a doctor registered with the OEUK to make sure they are fit for their working environment.

Why are offshore medicals required?
In the offshore environment, there is limited medical support available. Medical evacuation can be costly to companies, but most importantly, can often be delayed due to weather conditions putting extra risk on workers who are unwell. The offshore medical assesses your fitness to travel to, and work in the offshore environment. It considers your ability to complete a wide variety of tasks such as carrying out your normal duties without compromise to yourself or others and your ability to take part in offshore survival training. It also considers whether you require ongoing treatments that are not available offshore, and whether you are at risk of sudden illness that would not be possible to manage offshore.
How to I book my medical?
Booking is easy online. Just choose your medical, your date and time, and enter your details to book. Send in your pre-appointment questionnaires by email, or bring them along on the day.
The OEUK medical is the standard offshore medical for all those that work offshore in the UK. The OEUK pre-appointment questionnaire can be found here.

For those wanting to complete offshore survival training such as BOSIET or FOET, which include using Compressed Air Breathing systems, you will require a "Fit to Train" (FTT) medical and certificate to do this training. You will need to book a FTT medical alongside your OEUK in this case. The FTT pre-appointment questionnaire can be found here.

If you are part of the offshore Emergency Response Team (ERT), this is a more labour intensive role and the medical is more intensive to reflect this. You will need to book an ERT medical alongside your OEUK medical for these roles.

What happens after my offshore medical?
In most cases, a decision regarding your fitness to work offshore will be make by the end of your offshore medical appointment, and you will be provided with the relevant certificate. Your certificate will last a maximum of 2 years, at which point you will need to arrange a renewal of your OEUK medical.

Occassionally, medical conditions that are identified from the medical should be discussed with the operating companies medical advisor. This is to confirm whether the installation has the appropriate facilities to support a particular medical condition, and following discussion may enable a certificate to work with restrictions to particular installations or working conditions. It remains the responsibility of the operating company medical advisor to ensure that persons working offshore meet the necessary health standards for working on the installation and the final decision of fitness to work remains with them.
